Church of Saint Lazarus

A historically significant structure, the Church of Saint Lazarus was built in the late 9th century. This church is situated over the tomb of Lazarus, tales of whom can be found in the New Testament. Legend has it that he was forced to flee from Judea because of some rumors. Later on, he traveled to Cyprus where he was appointed as the bishop of Kition (modern day Larnaca,) and spent the rest of his life here. It is one of the three Byzantium churches that survived in Cyprus and was turned into Roman Catholic and a mosque under different reigns and rulers. Finally it was transformed into an Orthodox church and was used by both Catholic and Orthodox devotees for the next 200 years. The Salt Lake of Larnaca
